Trump’s lawyer said today that during the 2016 US presidential campaign, Trump was discussing the construction of the Trump Tower in Moscow. This is far longer than the time that we have known before, and it raises new questions about whether Trump has colluded with Russia.
Former New York City Mayor and Trump’s current lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, told the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) “Meet the Press” that during the year until October or November 2016, Trump and Michael Cohen, then his lawyer and Joe, is discussing the Trump Tower project in Moscow.
Giuliani said: “Our understanding is that the discussion lasted until 2016. There was not much discussion, but there was discussion.”
“The exact date cannot be determined, but the president remembers discussing this with him.”
Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for several felony convictions and pleaded guilty to false statements when he testified in Congress.
When Cohen testified in Congress in 2017, the discussion about the Russian Trump Tower project ended in January 2016, but he later admitted that his discussions with Trump continued for a longer period of time until June 2016. Trump seems to be certain that he will still be discussing the Republican presidential election.
Juliani’s statement today shows that Trump and Cohen’s discussion on the matter is longer than previously stated, until the November 2016 election.
As Trump denied having a business relationship with Russia, the Trump Tower case was the focus of the public.
After Trump denied having a business relationship with Russia, he also admitted that Cohen had been promoting this case to Russia until 2016, but Trump insisted that it was not a mistake to seek business opportunities when running for president.
Giuliani said that Trump played a passive role in negotiating with Moscow because Trump was too busy in the campaign and could not spend too much time on it.
Juliani also accepted CNN’s “State of the Union” interview: “Courne is pushing this project.”
Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor in the case of Tonguomen, is investigating whether the Trump campaign team is collaborating with Russia, making the 2016 US election favored the Republican party, and investigating whether Trump obstructs justice.
